HELLO!

I'm Maia, a costume technician and designer currently studying at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts where I am studying Costume Making (M.A.). I am a graduate from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon USA where I earned my B.A. in Theater Arts and B.M. in Music Composition with University Honors. I also completed an apprenticeship as a Design Apprentice in the Season 14 Apprentice Company at the Portland Playhouse.

My costume designs pull inspiration from the source: the story which is being told. What is chosen to be put on the human form holds great power for our understanding and appreciation of a situation, and my costumes aim to provide a fuller understanding of the world being presented.

I also greatly enjoy learning new things. You can see this in my various Sewing+Fabrication projects which include experiments in needle felting, hand embroidery, and practical lessons in historical sewing. I am always interested in trying something new or creatively problem solving to figure out how to make an idea a reality.
